Why you should never buy black or two tone tungsten rings.
Tungsten carbide is an incredible material, it’s extremely hard. Almost as hard as diamond in fact.
You buy a tungsten carbide ring when you want a ring that absolutely will not scratch. You can deadlift 200kg with a tungsten ring on and the rough barbell grip won’t even make a mark. You can spend 8 hours a day assembling scaffolding and it won’t show a mark.
Many of our competitors sell them in colourful variations, like black tungsten carbide, black with a rose gold stripe etc. They sell them because they’re cheap as chips to produce in China (where they’re all made). They look awesome when new, but these colourful coatings are just.. well.. coatings.
The coatings aren’t anywhere near as hard as the tungsten carbide itself. The coating will show scratches, it will wear through completely in other areas, showing the silver tungsten colour through from underneath.
So why even bother ordering tungsten if you’re covering it up with a cheap coating that will show scratches? You just don’t, its blasphemy.
If you want a black ring that will last, you need to go for ceramic or black zirconium with a real gold inlay that won’t rub off after 6 months.
If you want a scratch resistant ring, by all means order tungsten carbide. Just don’t get it with any plating applied to it.
